New Construction in Woodland Hills, Checking the Power Supply
New house construction in Woodland Hills that checks the electric service at the street first, since a larger load may need a new transformer or trench.
The power line that fed an earlier house on a Woodland Hills lot can hide a limit. A new house with heat pumps, an induction range and a car charger may draw far more than the old service was sized for. LADWP reviews the load and decides whether the transformer serving the street can carry it. If it cannot, the answer may be a new transformer, a pad on the lot or a fresh underground run.
Finding the limit early
We start with the electrician's load calculation for the house as designed, including any future battery or solar. That figure goes to LADWP with a service application, and the utility's planner looks at the transformer, the line to the lot and the existing drop. Overhead service may be allowed to continue, or the utility may require an underground run in conduit. The answer arrives as a written design showing where the meter goes, the trench route and any equipment location. We place that information on the site plan before your designer fixes the garage or the driveway.
What a finding changes
If the transformer needs replacing, the utility may ask for space on the lot for a pad-mounted unit, possibly with an easement. That pad can move a driveway, a wall or a planter. An underground service needs a trench from the property line to the meter, sometimes shared with telephone and cable lines, and the trench route affects landscaping and footings near it. Each of these items sits on its own line in the estimate. LADBS inspects the meter equipment and the trench before backfill, and LADWP sets the meter once the city releases the service.

New Construction in Woodland Hills: questions
We need the location of the power pole or vault that serves the lot and any utility easements in the title report, beside the usual survey, soils study and zoning limits. Tell us about planned loads such as a car charger, a spa or a shop, because they decide whether the service at the street can stay as it is.
Drawings, coordination of the consultants and the LADBS permit are priced first. After approval, construction is estimated in the order the work happens, from site work and foundation through framing, roof, rough trades and finishes. Utility-side items, such as a new trench, a transformer pad or conduit the utility requires, appear on separate lines with their reason.
Lining them up is our role. The surveyor records the lot and any easements, borings are placed from that record, and the structural engineer designs from both. The electrician's load calculation goes to the utility once the layout settles. We keep every document consistent for your designer and route each comment from plan check to the consultant who owns it.
