Valley Village fire rebuild planned for quiet rooms: insulated interior walls, solid core doors, a laundry placed away from bedrooms and quieter ductwork.

A bedroom that stays quiet while the dishwasher runs takes planning, and a rebuilt Valley Village house can be framed for it from the start. We place the laundry, the mechanical equipment and the kitchen so their noise passes through as few walls as possible, then add insulation and solid doors where rooms need calm. Those choices cost little while the frame is open and much more once drywall is up.

Walls and doors that hold sound

Interior walls are framed hollow, and sound passes through them easily. Packing the cavity with mineral wool or fiberglass batts, and using a heavier drywall on the bedroom side, cuts what reaches the next room. Solid core doors with a seal at the bottom do the same at the openings. Drain pipes from a bath above can be cast iron, or wrapped where they pass a bedroom wall. We mark each quiet room on the plan so the crew knows which walls get the extra layers.

Equipment placed with care

A heat pump condenser outside a bedroom window hums through the night, so we site it along a side wall or behind the garage where setbacks allow. Ducts sized generously move air at lower speed and make less noise at the grilles. The water heater and the laundry go where a running machine reaches the fewest living spaces. LADBS checks the mechanical layout and equipment clearances on the plans, and each sound measure is priced as its own line in the scope.
