New Construction in Northridge With Fiber Cement Siding
New house construction in Northridge clad in fiber cement siding, picked to hold paint under hard inland sun and to stand up to dry wind without rot.
For the walls of a new Northridge house, we specify fiber cement lap siding over a drained weather barrier. An inland lot takes hard sun and dry wind, and this board handles both. It does not rot, warp or feed insects, it holds paint far longer than wood under strong sun, and it is hard to ignite. Boards can arrive with the finish applied at the plant, which keeps field painting to touch-ups.
Hanging the boards
Each board is fastened into the studs at the spacing the manufacturer's installation guide sets, with corrosion-resistant nails driven snug to the face and never sunk below it. Butt joints land on a stud and get a strip of flashing behind them, so any water that slips past is turned outward onto the barrier. The bottom course stands clear of soil and paving, and the boards stop short of roof surfaces where a wall meets the roof, as the guide requires. Cuts are made outdoors with a saw that collects its dust, since the material releases silica when cut.
Living with a fiber cement wall
Upkeep is modest. The caulked joints at windows and trim get a look every so often, and boards primed on site need a fresh coat of paint at long intervals. Trim made from the same material keeps the whole skin moving together as it heats and cools. Dry wind can push grit and dust against a wall, and this surface shrugs it off without pitting. The exterior wall assembly is drawn on the plans LADBS reviews, and we photograph the barrier and every flashing before the boards cover them, so the hidden layers stay on record.

New Construction in Northridge: questions
A survey of boundaries and levels, the soil findings and the parcel's height and floor area rules form the base. Tell us early about the finish you want on the outside walls, because siding, trim and window details are drawn together, and the choice affects the energy forms. We also need to know where each utility meets the property.
Design, engineering and the LADBS permit come under the opening price. Construction is estimated after the plans are approved, stage by stage as it is built: foundation, frame, roof, the systems inside the walls, siding and trim, insulation and finishes. Siding appears with the board, the barrier and the flashing each named, so you can set it against another cladding.
Coordinating them is our part. The surveyor comes first, the soils engineer builds on the survey, and the structural engineer designs the frame from both. Your designer receives each report as it lands, and we compare the cladding details with the framing so nail lines meet studs. Plan check comments go back through whichever consultant owns the sheet.
