New Construction in Agoura Hills, Outdoor Chores Planned In
A new Agoura Hills house planned so bins, firewood, hoses and outlets each have a place, and the ground by the walls stays clear of what embers light.
We plan the outdoor chores of a new Agoura Hills house as carefully as its kitchen. Bins have to reach the curb, a hose has to reach the planters, and deliveries need somewhere to land by the door. A house on an Agoura Hills parcel mapped for fire hazard may also have to meet ember-resistance rules. We keep the ground next to the walls free of anything an ember could light, and give every daily task a spot that respects it.
A place for every daily task
The trash and recycling bins get a concrete pad of their own, set apart from the walls, with a level path to the side gate so rolling them to the curb takes no lifting. Firewood, if there is any, gets a rack well away from the house. Hose bibs go where a hose can reach each planting bed without crossing the walk. An outdoor outlet near the patio serves the grill and string lights, so no cord trails across the strip by the wall. The site plan shows every one of these, beside the grading and drainage lines.
The strip beside the walls
Gravel, pavers or bare concrete make up the ground hugging the house, and any plants there are kept low and well watered. Bark or wood chip mulch stays farther out. Gutters carry guards so leaves cannot pile up where an ember might land, and they are reachable from a short ladder for cleaning. Vents along the base and under the eaves get ember-resistant mesh, the siding near grade is a noncombustible material, and a deck, if the plan has one, is built from ignition-resistant boards. Landscape plans may also go to the county fire department for review as part of the permit.

New Construction in Agoura Hills: questions
How the outside of the house will be used: a vegetable bed, a dog run, a spot for the bins, a grill. Those uses decide where gates, outlets, hose bibs and paving go. The city's limits on height and coverage, a survey and a soils report complete the file, along with a check of the parcel's fire hazard mapping.
The outdoor work shows as its own group in the estimate: bin pad, paths, gutter guards, vent mesh, hose bibs and outlets. It sits inside a construction price drawn from the approved plans and split by stage, from grading through finishes. Survey, engineering and plan check fees are priced earlier, on their own.
Our office handles that, and on a parcel in a mapped fire hazard area the landscape designer joins the same schedule. Grades from the survey feed the drainage plan, and the hardscape layout must match both. When city plan check or the county fire department sends comments, they come to us first, and we pass each to the consultant responsible and follow it to a revised sheet.
